Connecticut: Marijuana’s medicinal benefits shouldn’t be denied to sick

norwichbulletin The General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee held public hearings on eight different pieces of legislation Monday, all dealing with marijuana use, everything from decriminalizing its recreational use to establishing procedures for its use for medicinal purposes.
One of the eight bills before the committee includes a provision requiring the state Department of Consumer Protection to establish a secured and licensed distribution system.
That 2007 measure also listed the specific ailments for which the drug could be used. Those are decisions that should be made by doctors, not lawmakers.
Learn from other states
If the drug has medicinal value, it shouldn’t be denied to those who can benefit from its use. Fifteen states already allow the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. We can learn from their experiences in developing a workable plan.
