Kinect is the Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device
Microsoft seems to have a real hit on its hands with Kinect. Since its release on November 4, 2010, the Xbox 360 accessory has already sold more than 10 million units to go along with 10 million Kinect games.
Those figures are according to Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Business boss Aaron Greenberg. Impressive as they are, the Guinness World Records has declared that Kinect is now officially (at least as far as Guinness’ word goes) the “fastest-selling consumer electronics device.” The eight million devices that sold in Kinect’s first 60 days of availability work out to 133,333 units per day, outpacing both the iPhone and iPad’s respective launches.
The editor of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer’s Edition, Gaz Deaves, said, “The sales figures here speak for themselves. We can confirm that no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”
