2013 Audi A5: What Is It?
The Audi A5 is this German company’s premium sporty/performance car. It comes in coupe and convertible body styles. Each holds 4 passengers. The S5 is a high-performance version of the A5, which we cover in a separate report.
2013 Audi A5: What’s New?
For 2013, the A5 gets slightly tweaked front and rear styling and enhanced interior styling. Also, some new technology options are available.
2013 Audi A5: Model Lineup, Features, and Options
The Audi A5 base model is called Premium. It includes a front limited-slip differential, tri-zone automatic climate controls, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio controls, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, aluminum or wood interior trim, heated power mirrors with turn signals, power sunroof on the coupe, a power-operated top and wind deflector on the convertible, digital-media player connection, memory-card slot, satellite radio, rain-sensing wipers with heated washer nozzles, automatic headlights, fog lights, and alloy wheels. When equipped for all-wheel drive, the A5 Premium gets a rear limited-slip differential as well. The Premium Plus trim package adds heated front seats, memory system for driver seat and mirrors, iPod connector, wireless cell-phone link, auto-dimming interior and exterior rearview mirrors, compass, universal garage-door opener, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and xenon headlights. The Prestige trim package has all the equipment found in the Premium Plus package, plus rear-obstacle detection, blind-spot alert, navigation system with voice recognition, rearview camera, top-end Bang and Olufsen sound system, HD Radio, and steering-linked adaptive headlights. Other available features comprise sport seats, steering-wheel shift paddles for the automatic transmission, ventilated front seats, Audi Connect assistance system, MMI infotainment system, and a drive-mode selector that changes the feel of the steering, throttle response, and transmission shift programming.
2013 Audi A5: Engines, Transmissions, and Drive Wheels
The A5 comes exclusively with a 211-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. The Cabriolet can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Models with front drive use a continuously variable transmission that behaves much like an automatic. AWD Cabriolets use an 8-speed automatic transmission. The coupe is all-wheel drive only and offered with a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission.
2013 Audi A5: Fuel Economy
No opportunity to measure. The EPA has assigned ratings of 22 mpg city/32 mpg highway to the coupe with manual transmission and AWD. The coupe and cabriolet with automatic and AWD both earned 20/30, and the front-wheel drive Cabriolet with CVT scored 24/31.
