2013 Chevrolet Spark: What Is It?

Spark is Chevrolet’s effort to light up the niche “sub-subcompact” market. Largely the purview of the Smart ForTwo, Spark is coming online alongside the similar-purpose Scion iQ. This Chevrolet is a 4-passenger 4-door hatchback that slots below the Sonic in size and price. It comes to the US from GM’s South Korean manufacturing plant.

2013 Chevrolet Spark: What’s New

Though Spark has been on sale for a while in other worldwide markets, model-year 2013 marks its debut for North American audiences.

2013 Chevrolet Spark: Model Lineup, Features, and Options

Spark follows Chevrolet convention in that it comes in base LS and uplevel LT trims, the latter being subdivided into 1LT and 2LT. It breaks from its brethren by not offering a top-line LTZ version.

Standard equipment is a bit odd. Air conditioning, power windows, and General Motors’ OnStar assistance are included across the board, but power locks and remote keyless entry are only included on the LTs.

The 1LT also gets cruise control, satellite radio, a USB port, steering wheel radio controls, a Bluetooth wireless cell-phone link, and Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system. The latter feature includes support for Pandora and Stitcher audio streaming when connected to a supported smartphone.

2LT versions add vinyl upholstery, heated front seats, and fog lights.

Factory options are limited to extra-cost paint and an engine-block heater.

2013 Chevrolet Spark: Engines, Transmissions, and Drive Wheels

All Spark models are front-wheel drive and use an 85-horsepower 1.2-liter 4-cylinder engine. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.

2013 Chevrolet Spark: Fuel Economy

The EPA has not announced fuel-economy estimates for the 2013 Chevrolet Spark.

2013 Chevrolet Spark: Safety Features

The 2013 Chevrolet Spark includes a standard complement of expected and federally mandated safety features. In addition, rear-side airbags, front knee airbags, and OnStar assistance are standard on all models.

We have not yet tested the 2013 Chevrolet Spark.
