2013 Lexus IS 250: What Is It?

This is the entry-level model in Lexus’ line of premium-compact sedans. Toyota’s luxury division sells several variants of this car, including a more-powerful IS 350, high-performance IS F sedans. Also offered are a pair of 2-door convertibles dubbed IS 250C and IS 350C. Please note that all other IS models are covered in separate reports.

The made-in-Japan IS 250 competes against entry-level versions of Audi A4 (2.0T), BMW 3-Series Sedan (328i), and Cadillac ATS (2.5L, 2.0T).

2013 Lexus IS 250: What’s New

The IS 250 is largely unchanged as 2013 marks the final model year of this car’s current design. Lexus launched a redesigned 2014 IS at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and that car will go on sale later in calendar 2013.

2013 Lexus IS 250: Model Lineup, Features, and Options

IS 250 comes in a single trim level with the choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. Standard equipment is pretty typical of the class and includes dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power front seats, power sunroof, and keyless entry with pushbutton engine start. Models with all-wheel drive add heated front seats, a feature that is optional on the rear-drive 250.

Most options come in packages. The Premium Plus Package includes heated front seats for rear-drive models, ventilated front seats for all versions, and wood interior trim. These features are also included on the Luxury Package along with upgraded leather upholstery, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, driver-seat memory, rain-sensing windshield wipers, power rear sunshade, and bi-xenon headlights. In order to get the Luxury Plus Package, buyers need to add a navigation system or the Navigation/Mark Levinson Package. The latter includes the necessary navigation system along with Lexus’ high-end Mark Levinson audio system.

An F Sport Package for rear-drive models includes unique wheels, exterior, and interior trim and a sport suspension.

2013 Lexus IS 250: Engines, Transmissions, and Drive Wheels

As mentioned above, the IS 250 is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The sole drivetrain teams a 204-horsepower 2.5-liter V6 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 6-speed manual offered on rear-drive versions has been discontinued.

2013 Lexus IS 250: Fuel Economy

EPA estimated fuel economy for the 2013 Lexus IS 250 is 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive and 21/27 with AWD. Premium-grade gasoline is required.
