The cloud gaming space just became that much more competitive. Gaikai has launched in 12 countries, joining the likes of OnLive as services that allow you to stream full-fledged PC games without having to install them locally.
What sets Gaikai apart is that it allows you to play games directly in your browser. Provided your connection quality is fast enough, you can try Mass Effect 2 right now at Gaikai’s official website (just wait for a pop-up in the bottom-right corner). Other games that can be played right now include Dead Space 2, Spore, The Sims 3, and Second Life.
A lengthy blog post by CEO David Perry outlines some of the challenges faced in developing a network that will allow gamers access to the service, which is currently live in 12 countries.
