PlayStation 3 Shipments Being Seized in Europe
For at least 10 days, customs officers in Europe will seize shipments of PlayStation 3 systems coming into Europe and keep them in Dutch warehouses. This is due to a court order in a patent case that Korean electronics company LG has filed against Sony, alleging that the PS3 manufacturer violated certain LG-owned Blu-ray patents.
Sony can seek to have the ban removed — at the same time, LG could also ask that it be extended beyond the current 10-day period. LG also has the right to request that the systems be destroyed. However, The Guardian reports that such an outcome is unlikely.
A Sony spokesperson said of the situation, “We are currently looking into this matter, and cannot make any comments at this point in time.”
