Growblox Sciences Jumps 29.90% on Monday

If you are looking for an opportunity to invest in the marijuana and cannabis space, you may want to take a glance at a Las Vegas, Nevada based company called Growblox Sciences.  Not only is the company priced cheaply at just over a quarter, it jumped almost 30% on Monday, and will be something to keep an eye on this week.  I’m going on record saying I invested in this company because of the upside and am hoping for the momentum to continue.

Will the momentum continue, or will it fizzle out?

Who is Growblox Sciences?

According to their website, their “science and research powers discovery.”  They also “marry cutting edge cannabis cultivation and biopharmaceutical research and development.”

Traded as “GBLX,” (read their profile on Yahoo! Finance), the stock has traded for several years, briefly getting to $ 13 before treading back down and becoming a penny stock.  While it’s always a risk to invest in any stock, penny stocks are by far the largest gambles, but with the U.S. Farm Bill passing, in addition to many States having legalized marijuana, the industry certainly has a lot less risk than it once did.

Disclaimer:  I do not give financial advice and don’t take responsibility for your trades.

What I could dig up about Growblox Sciences is that they have a very strong management team.  Additionally, I was able to pull these key components from their website:

  • They own patent-pending formulations of chemicals extracted from cannabis plants.
  • Their research partners include Louisiana State University and Michigan State University.
  • Their facility looks impressive. (Pic below.)

When a stock gains 29.90%, it’s time to take notice.  Here’s to hoping GBLX can keep running and we can find out more about them and their business in the mean time.

If anyone at GrowBlox Sciences reads this article and would like to give us more information on the company, the pipeline, and vision, we’d love to hear about it.

Please drop us a comment (it won’t be public) or send us an email here.

Broncos Legend Terrell Davis Jumps on the CBD Train

Former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis knows a thing or two about pain and injury. The Pro Football Hall of Famer was on his way to becoming one of the game’s greatest of all time when major knee injuries derailed his career — but not before he racked up nearly 9,000 overall yards, 65 touchdowns and plenty of hits.

Davis says he would’ve been able to suit up longer if he’d been allowed to take CBD during his playing days. And now the three-time All-Pro running back is pushing the cannabinoid after partnering with Defy, a CBD-infused sports drink.

A compound of hemp and marijuana, CBD isn’t psychoactive, but rather shows potential for treating pain, inflammation, anxiety and skin disorders, among other afflictions. In an interview with TheStreet, Davis says he’d been taking anti-inflammatory medications for years to treat joint pain and migraines.

“And we all know that the long-term effects of being on anti-inflammatory medicine is not good,” he says in the story. “I’ve been on CBD for well over a year now, and I can tell you that my body feels great. I have no more inflammation in my body, my knee, and my joint pain is gone. My migraines — I haven’t taken migraine medicine for over a year.”

Davis recently told TMZ that taking CBD might have helped with the inflammation he suffered during rehabilitation to get back on the football field, possibly extending his shortened career.

In addition to this new venture with Defy, Davis is involved with other cannabis-industry efforts, such as working with the Minority Cannabis Business Association to promote a more diverse pot industry.

Defy hasn’t hit shelves just yet. But because the product is made from hemp-derived CBD, the company won’t have to limit sales to marijuana dispensaries where pot is legal; it can also offer it online or at CBD stores around the country.

Oregon woman sets herself on fire, crashes car, jumps off bridge – and lives

(Reuters) – An Oregon woman who set herself on fire while driving, crashed her car on an interstate and then jumped off a highway bridge to a park below, survived the ordeal and was being treated at Portland area hospital, police said on Friday.

Another driver reported in an emergency call to police that the woman was driving recklessly on Interstate 105 and hit a median before crashing near an exit in Eugene on Thursday, about 110 miles south of Portland, according to the Eugene Police Department.

The 39-year-old woman then, still on fire, got out of her car and jumped off the interstate highway bridge, despite nearby witnesses’ attempt to intervene, police said.

The Eugene Register Guard, a local newspaper, reported she also began stripping off her burning clothes before she fell some 40 feet (12 meters), though police would not confirm that.

The woman did not have life-threatening injuries, but no further information about her condition or location was available, police said, adding they believed she was trying to end her life.

A 40-year-old woman, who happened to be in the park below the interstate, was struck by cascading debris from the woman’s crash but was not seriously injured and was released from an area hospital after an evaluation, police said.

Comedy ‘Jumps’ ‘Dragon 2? at Box Office

It was a big weekend at the box office, with two dueling sequels entering the fray with big hopes. In the end, the chips fell with a $ 60 million opening for the R-rated comedy 22 Jump Street in first place and DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 in second place with $ 50 million.

The final ranking took some box-office analysts by surprise; many expected Dragon 2 to top the weekend. Overseas, the film took in more than $ 26 million in ticket sales for a $ 76 million opening weekend. Last year, Pixar’s Monsters University opened in June and took in $ 82 million its opening weekend, while the first How to Train Your Dragon opened in March 2010 with a $ 43 million weekend. Reviews were very strong on Dragon 2, so the question now will be how strong its legs are going forward.

Third place went to Maleficent, Disney’s VFX-heavy take on the antagonist’s point of view in Sleeping Beauty, with a $ 19 million weekend. It now posts a $ 163 million domestic gross and $ 272 million in overseas ticket sales for a $ 436 million total.

Fourth place went to the sci-fi action movie Edge of Tomorrow, with $ 16 million in ticket sales. It’s earned $ 56 million domestic and $ 181 million overseas for a $ 237 million total.

In sixth is Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, with $ 9.5 million in domestic ticket sales. The superhero pic has earned $ 206 million domestic and $ 455 million overseas for a $ 661 million total.

Godzilla stomped his way to seventh place for the weekend, with $ 3 million in ticket sales. The movie has earned $ 191 million domestic and $ 248 million overseas for a $ 439 million total.

Seth MacFarlane’s live-action comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West sold $ 3 million in tickets this weekend, bringing its total domestic gross to $ 39 million, plus $ 20 million in overseas sales.

And Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man crossed the $ 700 million worldwide mark, having earned $ 198 million domestic and $ 502 million overseas to tip it just over the mark.

7th Dragon Jumps Platforms for Sequel

7th Dragon, the Nintendo DS RPG produced by the designer of the original Phantasy Star series, is getting a sequel of sorts, according to the new issue of Japan’s Famitsu magazine. The new game, titled 7th Dragon 2020, is due out on the PSP this fall in Japan, with Sega once again handling publishing duties.

The shift in platforms for the Imageepoch-developed role player series isn’t the only big change. The “2020” in the title comes to play because the new game takes place in Tokyo in the year 2020 — a bit different from the sword-and-sworcery world of the original. The graphic design is also getting a full revamp, with the short, cutesy characters of the original getting a full revamp.

The original 7th Dragon was released March 2009 in Japan, but ultimately failed to receive an official US release. More information on the sequel will be up on the (not yet open) official site in a day or two.

Fans hurt after horse jumps into crowd (Reuters)

SYDNEY (Reuters) – Spectators were hospitalized after a race horse hurdled the wrong fence and plunged into the crowd at a steeplechase in Australia Thursday.

Banna Strand, who had lost jockey Rowan Waymouth, leapt into a crowd of about 50 people after veering off course at the 5,500-meter race in Warrnambool, Victoria.

Seven people were taken to hospital, including a two-year-old girl and an elderly woman after the horse jumped a three-meter high fence, according to the AAP news agency.

Banna Strand was one of six horses who failed to complete the marathon race over 33 fences, Waymouth falling off his mount in a pile-up on the first lap.

Racing Victoria is set to launch an investigation into the incident in conjunction with the Warrnambool Racing Club.

“Our primary concern is for the well-being of those people that were injured in this freak accident,” Racing Victoria chief executive Rob Hines said in a statement.

“Ambulances and paramedics were on hand to provide immediate assistance and transfer those requiring further attention to Warrnambool Base Hospital.”

Racing Minister Denis Napthine added: “I have asked Racing Victoria to report back to me on existing safety measures and any recommendations to improve spectator safety.”

A two-year-old girl suffered a fractured collarbone in the melee while an 80-year-old woman was having shoulder and hip x-rays, and a 12-year-old girl x-rays on her foot, said AAP.

Four people have been discharged from the hospital.

“There were people running everywhere and I could hear the screaming and a horse among all the people over there,” an eye witness said.
