It’s been 20 years since McFarlane’s ultraviolent anti-hero wreaked havoc in HBO’s Emmy-winning adult animated series, and new plans to toon up the franchise are in motion, according to the creator.

I just had a couple meetings this weekend about a couple different animation looks, both something that we can get kids in at a younger age and then get them into the sort of crack cocaine version of Spawn,” McFarlane said during Fan Expo Canada. “And then do the adult one. So we’re talking about that. I think both of those come after the movie.”

WB Animation, Brownstone Prod. Dig New ‘Flintstones’ Series

Warner Bros. Animation and Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions are ready to rock with a new series starring Hanna-Barbera’s Stone Age cartoon sitcom, The Flintstones. Currently in early development, the project will be a primetime animated adult comedy based on an original idea, bringing back characters from the 1960s show, Variety reports.

No network is attached to the concept as yet.

Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, The Flintstones premiered on ABC in 1960, running for six seasons (166 episodes) — making it the longest-running network animated franchise until The Simpsons took the crown. The centered on the titular “modern Stone Age family” — blue collar dad Fred, homemaker Wilma and baby daughter Pebbles — as well as their suburban Bedrock neighbors.

The original series spawned several reboots and spinoff series over the next decades, as well as an animated theatrical feature (the 1966 James Bond spoof The Man Called Flintstone), TV specials/movies and two live-action features directed by Brian Levant in 1994 and 2000. In 2011, FOX announced that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was working on a reboot, but let it go after a lukewarm pilot script reception.

Most recently, The Flintstones appeared in Warner Bros. Animation’s direct-to-video 2015 movie The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown! A new kid-friendly series starring Pebbles Flintstone, Bamm-Bamm Rubble and Dino the dinosaur from WBA, Yabba-Dabba Dinosaurs!, is set to debut on Boomerang (U.S.) and Teletoon (Canada) this fall.

Brownstone Prod. was a producer on the Pitch Perfect films, Hulu series Shrill and this year’s Charlie’s Angels reboot. The shingle has multiple live-action projects in various stages of production.

Australia Extends VFX Tax Offset to Streaming Series

The Australian Federal Government has announced that it has extended the Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) and Location Offsets to include episodic series and mini-series produced for online streaming platforms.

The nationwide move by the Morrison Government follows South Australia’s state-based PDV incentive of 10%, which is boosting business for local studios such as award-winning VFX house Rising Sun Pictures. Combined with the federal offset, streaming projects which tap South Australian effects talent essentially are able to access a combined 40% rebate.

“We’re already seeing the local incentive bringing new and expanded projects to South Australia and setting the stage for future growth,” said Tony Clark, Managing Director of Adelaide-based RSP. “This is a game changer for the entire industry and will make Australia a frontrunner in the new frontier of streaming production. It will allow our country to reliably build capability due to a consistent pipeline of work and create significant employment opportunities. Not only will it bring benefits to the local economy, but it will also allow us to build ongoing relationships with online streaming companies, something which has been lacking in recent years as other destinations offered stronger incentives.”

RSP has been creating stand-out cinematic visuals for more than 20 years, with recent projects including major motion pictures Dumbo, Captain Marvel, The Predator, Tomb Raider, Peter Rabbit and Thor: Ragnarok. The studio’s talent pool includes Tony Clark, part of the Cospective team which won an Academy Scientific and Technical Award for the creation of remote collaboration tool cineSync; VFX supervisor Tim Crosbie, nominated for Academy and BAFTA Awards for RSP’s work on X-Men: Days of Future Past; and creative director Tom Wood, nominated for Academy and BAFTA Awards for Best Visual Effects on Mad Max: Fury Road.

2C Serves Up Parenting ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Style in New Promo

The creative agency was tapped by Twentieth Television to develop and produce the “Winning at Parenting” 30-second spot, which spotlights the Belchers’ particular domestic flair. Creative director Cheryl King was inspired by the hall of living portraits in Harry Potter for the conceptual set up to recycled clips.

“Wait, we actually get paid for this? … In all seriousness, working with Jasmine Walker [Exec Director, Marketing & Creative] at Twentieth was a great experience. Something she said that I loved was that they try to never use the same conceptual or visual device twice for any of their shows. This makes it both a challenge and an amazing exploratory experience into the possibilities of animated storytelling.” — Cheryl King

Trailer: ‘Alien: Isolation’ Game-Inspired Web Series Invades IGN Thursday

The critically acclaimed horror survival game Alien: Isolation — based on the iconic sci-fi franchise begun 40 years ago with Ridley Scott’s film Alien — has been refitted as a seven-episode web series, launching exclusively on IGN tomorrow (Thursday, Feb. 28) at 9 a.m. PT.

The storyline for the 2014 game follows Amanda, daughter of Ellen Ripley, as she seeks the truth about her mother’s fate aboard Nostromo 15 years after the events of Alien. Her quest leads to a desperate fight for survival against a vicious Xenomorph stalking the ship Sevastopol.

IGN’s animated miniseries was created using newly rendered scenes as well as cutscenes and first-person sequences from the game, re-shot and edited. The aim is to both provide new depth to the story for those who played through Alien: Isolation, as well as make Amanda’s harrowing adventure accessible to non-players.

The Alien: Isolation series is created by 20th Century Fox in collaboration with Reverse Engineering Studios and DVgroup.
